Year 6 started a new topic – Notre Monde. They found out where the Francophone countries are in the world. They also learnt the names of a few European countries as well as the languages spoken in those countries. They practised telling their partners, their names, nationality and languages they spoke. They had a go at saying this pretending they were from a different country too.

Reading a timetable
Year 6 revised the days of the week, telling the time and school subjects. They told their partner which subject they preferred and translated questions about the start and end time of subjects from a timetable. They then wrote down a simplified version of their timetable.
School subjects
Today, year 6 learnt the names of the main school subjects. They practised remembering them by playing guessing games as a class by identifying the missing subject and the subject hiding behind an image of the Eiffel Tower. They then matched pictures of subjects with scrambled letters for each subject, which they then unscrambled.
Notre ecole- Our school
Year 6 have been learning all about the vocabulary they would need if they took a visitor on a guided tour of the school. They used the word: voici and learnt how to change the definite article to the indefinite article in order to write their own paragraph about ‘our school.’
Telling the time to the quarter hour
Year 6 revised telling the time to the hour and half hour. Quarter to and quarter past in French is different to English, so required a lot of concentration. The children then completed a telling the time activity.
Learning to tell the time
As an introduction to the topic, Notre Ecole (Our School), the children revised numbers in order to tell the time. They had lots of practise with telling the time to the hour and half hour.
