Year 6 practised learnt the words for a song about a restaurant which had no food. They the. Practised using Je voudrais with different foods in a sentence. They then chose items from a menu and wrote down some sentences using Je voudrais ….
LO: to learn some of the vocabulary found on a menu
Year 6 practised learning their new food vocabulary. They then labelled a variety of food pictures to consolidate their learning.
Lo: to use a bilingual dictionary
Year 6 looked at the words words from the menu that they didn’t know. They then used a bilingual dictionary to find out the meanings.
Lo: to read and understand some words on a French menu
Year 6 started a new topic: Monter un café -set up a cafe. They started their topic off by looking at a French cafe menu. They identified words that they already knew as well as creating a list of words that they didn’t know. Next week,they will use a bilingual dictionary to find out the meanings of those unkown words.

LO : to read a text and use information to complete a table.
Year 6 were language detectives. They identified words that they already knew, including the names of rivers and continents. They then identified the pronoun il for the masculine rivers and elle for the feminine noun. They then looked at the table and looked for the relevant information to fill in.
LO: to find out about Christmas traditions in France
Year 6 were introduced to French Christmas traditions. They found out about how the French celebrate Christmas, including some French vocabulary. They were especially interested in the similarities and differences between the Christmas dinner which include eating seafood, salad,cheese,crudités and petit fours. They then chose a variety of activities to complete including word searches, and crosswords which were completed using a word mat.
LO: to label the oceans, continents and rivers on a map of the world in French
Year 6 continued with their Our World topic by recognising and saying the names of the continents and rivers. They then used their geography skills and atlases to label a map of the world. They also looked for the names of a few major rivers, adding them to their maps.
LO: say in which country a person lives and the language they speak
Year 6 started a new topic today, Notre Monde, our world. They learnt how to say the names of a few European countries, saying where someone lived and what language they spoke. They practised using, What is your name in French and replying. They translated sentences about different children from different countries and wrote some sentences about them using the given sentence structure.
LO: to show a visitor around the school
Year 6 were given short scripts to practise and memorise. They practised with their groups and then walked around the school as if they were showing a visitor around.
LO: to write down my timetable, including the day of the week, subject and the time of the lesson
Year 6 revised the days of the week, time and school subjects. They then looked at a few timetables, translating and working out at what time a lesson started or finished. They then completed a simple timetable, filling in times,and subjects and the day of the week. once they had done that, some children moved onto writing sentences including the information in the table.
