Using il ya and il y avait to compare places

Year 6 started the lesson with vocabulary revision of all the places found in a town. They then played the Tourist game, where 2 children were tourists. They had to guess places that the rest of the class had chose whilst they were out the room. The children practised sentence structures using il y a when playing this game. They were then introduced to Il y avait by looking at a variety of places on the island form the past and comparing them to what is there now. They also discussed some places in town that they knew had changed. They then joined a then and now sentence with but to create a model sentence which they then changed to create their own
